Mardi Gras !

We loved every moment of our weekend in New Orleans that we added onto a business trip to Dallas. It wasn't Mardi Gras time yet, but we got a preview because the city was getting ready for it.

This is a city that is really colorful, helped out by the Mardi Gras masks (upper right and lower left) that make things feel festive as well. People were beginning to decorate their houses with the traditional colors of gold, green, and purple, much as others decorate at Christmas time. We especially liked this door wreath that we saw on a walking tour of the Algiers district across the river.

The dragon was a float under construction at Mardi Gras World, an exhibit hosted by the company that makes most of the parade floats. Its entire side is covered with tiny lights, which no doubt contribute to its $600,000 cost.
